The Jobs Other Shops Turn Away
PIE Weld & Machine is a manual machine shop run by our tool and die makers, with over 30 years in the trade. We don't chase production runs, and we don't try to compete with CNC shops. Our work is the one-off part, the broken machine, the prototype that only exists on paper, and the repair a busy job shop doesn't have time for.
Bring us a worn shaft, a damaged part with no drawing, or an idea sketched on a napkin. We measure it, work out how it should be made, and machine it right here in our shop for customers across Cecil County, MD, Maryland, Delaware, and the Chesapeake Bay region.
What We Take On
- One-off and replacement parts
- Prototypes and custom builds
- Equipment repair and rebuilds
- Parts made from a sample, no drawing needed
- Obsolete parts that are no longer made
- Small quantities done right
- Breakdown repairs to get you running again
What We Don't Do
- High-volume production runs
- CNC batch machining
- On-site machining. All machine work is done in our shop.
If you need thousands of parts, a CNC production shop is the right call. If you need one part made right, call us.

What We Machine
Machining Services
From a single prototype to a worn-out shaft off a piece of equipment, our tool and die makers handle the manual machining work that keeps machines running across Cecil County, MD, Maryland, Delaware, and the Chesapeake Bay region.
01
Prototype Machining
Turn an idea, sketch, or drawing into a working part. We machine one-off prototypes and test parts so you can prove the design before committing to production.
02
Equipment Repair & Rebuilds
Worn, broken, or damaged equipment parts repaired or remade. We get machinery back in service when the original part is unavailable or takes weeks to source.
03
Equipment Design & Fabrication
Custom equipment, jigs, fixtures, and tooling designed and built in-house. With welding and machining under one roof, we take a project from concept to finished build.
04
Shaft Repair & Hard-Facing
Worn shafts built up with hard-facing weld, then turned back to bearing and seal size on the lathe. A fraction of the cost and wait of a new shaft.
05
Bearing & Seal Removal
Seized bearings, stubborn seals, and pressed-on parts removed without damaging the housing or shaft, ready for new components to go back in.
06
Cylinder Head & Exhaust Manifold Resurfacing
Warped cylinder heads and exhaust manifold flanges skimmed flat for a proper gasket seal, including cast iron and aluminum on classic and vintage engines.
07
Keyways, Slots & Shaper Work
Internal keyways, splines, and odd-shaped slots cut on our metal shaper, a machine few shops still run and the right tool for jobs a mill can't reach.
08
Surface Grinding
Precision flat surfaces and tight tolerances on plates, blocks, tooling, and wear parts, the finishing work tool and die makers have done for decades.
09
Custom & Obsolete Parts
Replacement parts for classic cars, tractors, boats, and older machinery that are no longer made. Bring us the old part, and we make you a new one.
Don't see your job listed? If it can be machined on a manual lathe, mill, shaper, or grinder, we can probably make it.

Weld It, Then Machine It
Most repairs need both. A machine shop sends the welding out, a welding shop sends the machining out, and your part spends weeks in transit. We do both in the same shop, by the same people, start to finish.
How a Repair Moves Through Our Shop
1
Inspect & Measure
We assess the damage, measure what's left, and work out the original dimensions.
2
Weld & Build Up
Fractures repaired and worn areas built back up with the correct filler for the base metal.
3
Machine to Size
Turned, milled, or ground back to spec so bearings, seals, and gaskets fit right.
4
Back in Service
One shop, one invoice, and your part back without the runaround.
Typical Weld & Machine Repairs
- Worn shafts: hard-faced, then turned back to bearing and seal size
- Cast iron exhaust manifolds: weld repaired, then flanges resurfaced flat
- Cast aluminum housings: repaired, then sealing faces and bores machined true
- Broken brackets and mounts: welded, then holes and faces machined back to fit
- Damaged threads and bores: built up, then re-machined and re-tapped
- Equipment and tooling: designed, fabricated, and machined in one build

Why It Matters
The Tool & Die Maker Advantage
Tool and die making is a dying trade. It's the discipline that builds the tooling, fixtures, and precision parts every other shop depends on, and it takes years on the shop floor to learn. Our tool and die makers trained the traditional way, including an apprenticeship served in England, and have spent more than 30 years in the trade since.
That training changes how we approach a job. We don't need a CAD file or a CNC program to make a part. Give us the broken original, a sketch, or a description of what it has to do, and we'll work out how to make it on manual machines and make it right.
"If we don't have the tool for the job, we make the tool."
Reverse Engineering
Parts made from a worn or broken sample. We measure, rebuild the missing dimensions, and machine a new one.
Close Tolerances
Bearing fits, press fits, and sliding fits held to the thousandth. Precision is the core of tool and die work.
Jigs, Fixtures & Tooling
Custom holding fixtures, welding jigs, and special tooling built to make your job repeatable and accurate.
No Drawing Needed
A photo, a napkin sketch, or the part itself is enough. We'll work out the details with you.
Material Know-How
The right steel, stainless, aluminum, brass, or bronze for the load, wear, and environment the part will see.
Problem Solving
The jobs that stump other shops are the ones we enjoy. Odd shapes, tight spaces, and no obvious way to hold the part.
Our Machine Shop Equipment
Every piece of equipment in our shop earns its place by doing real work. No showpieces, nothing bought for looks. Run by our tool and die makers and backed by tooling collected over decades in the trade, this is what we reach for when a part needs to be measured, turned, milled, or ground right the first time for customers in Cecil County, MD, Maryland, Delaware, and the Chesapeake Bay region.
16" Nishimori Toolmakers Lathe
The heart of the shop, built in Japan. The 16" swing and gap bed give us room for large-diameter work, from small precision parts to shafts, housings, and flanges, including hard-faced shafts turned back to bearing and seal size. A digital readout keeps every cut accurate. Our bench top lathe handles the small, delicate work that calls for a lighter touch.
Bridgeport Vertical Mill
Flat work, slots, pockets, and precision holes for custom parts and repairs. Fitted with an Acu-Rite digital readout, it’s a proven workhorse on jobs large and small, and central to how we machine one-off replacement parts.
Surface Grinder
When a part needs a dead-flat finish or a tolerance a mill can’t hold, our surface grinder closes the gap on plates, blocks, tooling, and wear parts.
Atlas Metal Shaper
Old-school equipment that still earns its keep, cutting flat surfaces, internal keyways, and slots. You don’t see many in shops anymore, and it’s one more reason we can take on jobs other shops turn away.
Pantograph
For model work and pattern making, reproducing a shape or engraving with a precision that’s difficult to achieve by hand. A specialty tool that rounds out what we offer in-house.
Separate Grinding & Saw Area
We keep our grinding area apart from the machining area, so grit stays away from mill ways, lathe beds, and precision work. Bench and belt grinders handle tool grinding and deburring, and a DoAll contour band saw cuts stock and profiles.
Materials we machine: steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, brass, bronze, UHMW, and Delrin.
Recent Machine Work
A look at real jobs through our shop: aviation parts, marine drive repairs, and classic car restoration work, all machined on manual equipment by our tool and die makers for customers in Cecil County, MD, Maryland, Delaware, and the Chesapeake Bay region.
CH-47 Chinook In-Flight Refueling Probe Mount
This split ring mount for a CH-47 Chinook helicopter holds the fitting for the refueling probe, the connection point to the tanker aircraft during in-flight refueling. We machined it from solid aluminum plate. It was faced and turned on our lathe, split, drilled, and finished with mounting lugs to fit the aircraft’s linkage, then installed on the helicopter. It’s precision aviation work, made one at a time in our shop.
Classic Corvette Exhaust Manifold Resurfacing
Warped exhaust manifolds leak no matter how new the gasket is. These 1960s Corvette cast iron manifolds were clamped and indicated on our Bridgeport mill, then the port flanges were resurfaced flat and true so they seal properly against the cylinder heads. That’s the careful machine work a classic restoration deserves.

Getting Started
How to Get Your Part Made
Starting a machining job with us is simple. You don't need a CAD file or a formal drawing. Most of our work starts with a photo, a sketch, or the broken part itself.
1
Send Us a Photo or Sketch
Email photos of the part with a tape measure or ruler in the shot, or send a sketch with the key dimensions. A drawing helps if you have one, but it isn't required.
2
Tell Us What It Does
Let us know what the part does, what it fits into, the material if you know it, how many you need, and when you need it. The more we understand how the part works, the better we can make it.
3
Bring In the Part
For repairs and reverse engineering, the original part is the best drawing there is. Call ahead and drop it off at our shop in Warwick, MD. All machine work is done in-house.
4
Get a Clear Quote
We'll look it over, talk through the best way to make or repair it, and give you a clear quote before any work starts. No surprises.

What Our Machine Shop Customers Say
Yanmar SD50 Saildrive Shaft Repair
48-hour deadline. Done in 36.
★★★★★
"Tony and Mike at PIE are terrific. I was in Maryland for just a few days working on my boat and discovered that the prop shaft was badly scored and most of the oil had leaked past the seals. I contacted PIE and brought my prop shaft to them and explained that I had only 48 hours before my flight. No problem, the shaft was machined, a sleeve fitted and new seals pressed in to the housing. 36 hours later the repair was completed and I reinstalled the shaft. I thought I was asking for the nearly impossible. They delivered with great service and great workmanship. After that experience I can you won't be disappointed."
